The term Internet Protocol telephony is also known as IP Telephony specifically refers to the provisioning of communications services such as voice, fax, SMS, voice-messaging over the Internet. IP telephony refers to any phone system that utilizes an internet connection to send and receive voice data. Unlike a conventional telephone that uses landlines to transmit analog signals, IP phones connect to the internet via a router and modem. In IP Telephony solutions the communication is provided via Internet using the open standards-based Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) over an IP-based network.
